9th assignment : Sentence Writing


The sentence patterns below are the patterns of simple sentences, which have one subject and one predicate.

Sentence Pattern 1

            Subject + Verb

1).   Driver love learning grammar.

=>  A bus (Modifier) driver love learning English (Complement) grammar.

 

2).   Person stands next to the door .

=>   That (Modifier) person stands next to the door is my boyfriend (Complement).

 

3).   Singer founds the room .

=>   A pop (Modifier) singer founds the room empty (Complement).

 

4).    A car parks in garage.

=>    A racing (Modifier) car parks in pink (Complement) garage.

 

Sentence Pattern 2

Subject + Action verb + Direct object

1).    School mistress is teaching him.

=>   A (Modifier) school mistress is teaching him English(Complement).

 

2).    He finish work.

=>    He just (Modifier) finish works today (Complement).

 

3).    I gave him.

=>   I gave him only (Modifier) three dollars(Complement).

 

4).    Students enjoy using the texts.

=>   The (Modifier) students enjoy using the hypermedia (Complement) texts.

 

Sentence Pattern 3

Subject + Linking verb + Subject complement (Noun or Pronoun)

1).    Face will turn red.

=>   Brandon's (Modifier) face will turn very (Complement)  red.

 

2).    Mike becomes embarrassed when people compliment his skill.

=>   Mike often (Modifier) becomes embarrassed when people

compliment(Complement) his skill.

 

3).    Lake was a pool.

=>   The (Modifier) lake was a tranquil (Complement) pool.

 

4).    That is not what I want.

=>   That shirt (Modifier) is not what I want (Complement).

 

Sentence Pattern 4

Subject + Linking verb + Subject complement (Adjective)

1).   English is difficult.

=>   English grammar (Modifier) is very (Complement) difficult.

 

2).   The nutrients are the health of the reef.

=>  The plentiful (Complement)   nutrients are important(Modifier)   to the

health of the reef.

 

3).    Children are angry.

=>   All (Modifier) Children are very (Complement) angry.

 

4).   The steps, having been worn down by generations of students, needed to be replaced.

=>   The stone (Modifier) steps, having been worn down (complement) by generations of students, needed to be replaced.

 

Sentence Pattern 5

Subject + Verb + Indirect object + Direct object

1).    My brother  gave the boy a prize.

=>    My younger (Modifier) brother  gave the boy a new (Complement) prize.

 

2).    This  cat suck up milk.

=>   This  white (Modifier) cat suck up her (Complement) milk.

 

3).   John read his tiny nephew an exciting story.

=>   John read his tiny (Complement) nephew an exciting (Modifier) story.

 

4).   Our father built the family a redwood picnic table.
=>
   Our father (Complement) built the family a redwood (Modifier) picnic table.
